Blog #1: Myself defined by six little words
Peaks or Tides, Count Me In
But hey, I'm surrounded by water right?? Just like the ocean... but in frozen form... But as soon as a solid foundation for boarding was established, I started falling in love with the quirks of the mountains, from the freshness in the air, to the endless number of evergreens (especially the baby chipmunks running up them). Now the mountains have become routine in my life and take up majority of my weekends off, not to mention majority of my bank account. I think my quick infatuation with the mountains is a reflection of me falling for things and people with little hesitation. This often includes extremely dumb jokes.

This picture to the right is me and my first love, the ocean. Growing up in San Diego with parents from Ocean Beach, beach days were always a convenient and free way to spend our time, thus being okay with sand everywhere and anywhere has been instilled in me since diapers. As I grew up and moved more inland from the beach, my love for wading in the waves stayed strong. Even today, I'll catch myself contemplating a beach break between class gaps, knowing odds are not likely I'll return to campus once I catch a wiff of sea breeze. This might say something about how my priorities astray at times... or something about how I just really enjoy some ocean air. All I know is an open ocean is definitely my happy place and is always there when I need her.
I can see how you love both the ocean and the snow. You look incredibly joyful in both pictures. Btw, I love the six-word memoir, and the title of your blog just made me smile.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna,
ReplyDeleteI also grew up in San Diego and have always had a special connection to the ocean and its particular breeze. Going to this school always allowed me to stay close to my roots and over appreciating the different beaches all over the city. I often spent a lot of my time in la jolla with friends going to all sorts of different beach hikes and adventures. So in other words I am always down to hit the beach. As much as I love the beach I actually really appreciated the mountains. I was always amazed by their hight and rocky appearance especially being a rock climber.
I've always been super interested in taking trips to Utah because of their awesome mountains. A large part of me wants to go out and climb them, or simply go out to be in the snow. Lucky for me I'm actually going to Colorado in the coming months and I am so excited to explore their mountain regions.

Hello Anna,
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome how you look so happy in both pictures yet the settings of each is so different from one another. I grew up here in SD as well and the beach is one of the first places I can recall from my childhood. I remember boogie boarding with my brothers and building sand castles with my sister, I don't do either anymore but the memories of it are still just as vivid. Which beach here in San Diego is your favorite to visit?
The mountains look beautiful in Utah and there's something about snow covered trees that I love. Sadly I've never been snowboarding, but I really hope to try it out one day. My only experience in the snow was a trip I took to Big Bear as a young girl and when I first saw the snow I hoped out of the car and started running in it barefoot and all. But I've never been back since then. It's super cool how you found a passion for snowboarding even though you grew up somewhere completely different! I also love your blog title, it's so relatable.

ReplyDeleteHi Anna,
DeleteYour pictures are so meaningful to your writing! I love it.
I really got a feel of how open you are to new experiences, that's amazing! I find it crazy when someone isn't willing to go on new adventures. You seem like the girl who is always willing to write herself down!
I have now written down how badly I must go to the mountains to enjoy some snow!
Thank you for sharing the joy of your travel! Have you gone to any others besides Utah?
Also, talk about extremely relatable ! "College Girl who Lives as if she's not Broke. (she's broke)" ! I feel this on so many levels, and I too have my have tos that take my bank account! Traveling being one of them.
Hey Anna,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your paragraph about snowboarding, as I just went for my first time over winter break and fell in love with the sport. The way it feels as you're riding down the mountain, when its just you and the snow, is one of the most rewarding feelings and I enjoy meeting people with the same passion. I grew up in Chicago, so I haven't had much experience with going to the beach often but I am always curious to hear people born in California talk about it. If I had grown up here I would have been at the beach all the time, and I find it amusing when California residents don't take advantage of the ocean being right next to them. But it sounds like you make the most of that and I think that's awesome, thanks for sharing.
